Little Red Vegas I

'Little Red Vegas I' - 8"x8" - oil on canvas

So, here's the deal. I'm doing a solo show in May at a new gallery belonging to a friend of mine named TastySpace Gallery. That's the gallery's name, not his. His name is Dana. Just thought I'd clear that up. Help me. I quit coffee for Lent. And I'm not even religious.

Anyway, I've got a couple paintings done for the show, and in between the mass spamming of all your inboxes over the next couple months with my new work for two of my galleries - I am completing paintings 14-15 of 22 works to be distributed between the two of them, right now...breathe....1, 2, 3.... - as well as the nearly complete batch of 7 new studies for direct sale - breathe....1, 2, 3....(shot of tequila)...breathe....1, 2, 3.... - I am going to post the works I have ready for the upcoming show at TastySpace. Because I want your heads to explode. Just like mine.

'Little Red Vegas I' is the first of a series that lets me explore the joyous bounty of neon signage that is part of the experience when you come here. For those who don't know, I live in Las Vegas. And we have a long history with neon. In fact, I've been here so long, I remember when most of the signs, which now pepper the Fremont Street Experience downtown in what is called the Neon Museum, were actually in their original locations across the valley. Granted, I was very, very small, but neon.....it's kinda hard to forget. I forgot losing my first tooth, but I didn't forget being nearly blinded on a regular basis whenever I crawled around outside on my front lawn . Our streetlamps were neon, too. Okay, not really. But an Elvis impersonator shops at my grocery store. True story.

So last month I took a couple evenings downtown and indulged myself in lots and lots of photography of neon signage for the express purpose of painting my past. And Dana is thrilled to be hosting a show that includes these little gems. Although one of the gems is going to be not-so-little, measuring 36" squared. What am I thinking?!?!

If you are interested in 'Little Red Vegas I', and would like to talk to Dana about pricing and such, you can contact him directly via email. Although you might not get the painting straight away as it has to hang for a few weeks in May for the show.
