Cupcake Commission: Red Velvet

'Red Velvet' - 6" x 6" - oil on canvas - private commission

Admittedly, I have never been drawn to Red Velvet cupcakes outside of looking at them and marveling over how much food coloring it would take to make them THAT RED. I always assumed they'd taste like sugar bombs, KoolAid nightmares or OtterPops (not that there's anything wrong with OtterPops). When I bought the cupcake for this commission, I decided to judge for myself and took a bite. It was surprisingly mild and really quite tasty.

Damnit.

I've always felt the same! Some time I'll have to actually try them as well. This is exquisite!

I use beetroot to colour my red velvet cake and skip the artificial colourings. It's much more healthy and still so so delicious and beautifully red! Another great painting!
