Satsuma Study #2

"Satusuma Study #2" - 6" x 6" - oil on hardboard panel - SOLD
*
Here is the 2nd of three Satsuma orange study paintings I'm intending to list in December..........oh, wait. HAPPY FEBRUARY!!!!!
*
So, I was saying, here is the 2nd of the series of three. I like the way the leaves of this one stretch out across the canvas like arms. Do you notice how orange leaves are super shiny on one side but a soft matte on the other? This orange's leaves were turned just so, the velvety matte side facing up. Even the color is different on one side of leaves vs. the other. I don't know why, but that absolutely fascinates me.

Study - Antique Coffee Grinder

"Zassenhaus" - 6" x 6" - oil on cradled hardboard panel - SOLD
*
My neighbor, Anne, has an enormous collection of antiques. I believe I've mentioned this before when using other items belonging to her as props for past paintings. This Zassenhaus coffee grinder is among them, one she brought with her from her homeland, Germany, many decades ago. There were even grounds left in the tray when she handed it to me for photographing. I asked how long since she'd last used it for its intended purpose. She blinked a few times and said, very casually, "Um, about 30 years?" "So, you won't be needing these grounds, then?" "Not unless I want to be sick, no."
