Teacup Study: My Mother's Collection III

"My Mother's Collection III" - 6" x 6" - oil on cradled hardboard panel - SOLD

Studies such as this are a perfect opportunity for me to test the limits of what I can accomplish at such a small scale. This is quite possibly the most difficult 6" study I have ever undertaken. The primary result is the immense satisfaction I feel knowing that I made it all the way through without any major catastrophes.

After several months of working my way up to starting this one, I had trained my eye and my hand to work together in harmony and was able to create a final study which I am very comfortable showcasing on my blog. Don't get me wrong, it was laborious. But it was also worth it. I am much more confident in myself as an artist because of this experience.

The sheen at the edge of the cup and below the saucer is like a touch of white from the innards - a splash of white against the riot of colours. Inspiring, Jelaine!
