Anne's Kettle

6" x 6" - oil on canvas

My neighbor, Anne, has amassed a very large collection of copper ware from her travels abroad. Wow, doesn't that sentence sound smug???? Ha! Anyway, Anne's kettle. I borrowed this one with it's leather wrapped arched handle because it was so impressive. I've never seen anything like it.

I'm doing a painting for the gallery I work with in Dallas - kettle, platter, sugar jar, all copper. It's been a few months since my last attempt at copper, and a study was in order. I cropped a small section of the photo I'm using as reference and whipped this little beauty up today. Specifically, I wanted to be certain I was comfortable with a pale blue background before I committed to it at a larger scale. That was the hard part. The copper kettle, any metallic object for that matter, is the easy part. I can safely say that I am comfortable. That blue makes the copper body and brass lid/spout really pop. Gives it a whole new life.

Beautiful. My wife and family usually traveled to Ark. to see my in-law. Along the ways, my wife always collected those antique copper wares. They are too expensive for my taste since we never use them for cooking. She said they are collective items and cant use for daily stuffs. Oh well.

I have been tried to get my work into local galleries around Dallas, TX. so far no luck.

Envy for those who can paint fulltime. Thanks for sharing.

BTW, my daughter and I are black belt in Karate. collected alot of kung fu's instruction videos.

So good to see you well enough to paint - and what a beauty! I agree that the blue does make the red of the copper pop and glow. Take care.

Thank you, All!

K, sometimes a painting comes together very quickly. Other times it takes more work. I'm currently painting three sushi themed pieces that take quite a bit more effort. Something about metallic objects that I can paint them faster than other items. Not sure why, it just works out that way.

Manpolo, I like your wife's line of thinking!
