Nigiri Study - Tuna

Sushi Study #2 - oil on canvas - 6"x 6"
*
The 2nd sushi study as I get into some more complicated sushi paintings. Funny how it always seems sushi is going to be much harder to paint than it ends up being in the end. It's the rice I fear most. You're basically painting several shades of white in highlight and shadow. Kind of an all or nothing subject. Too much variation and it looks as if the rice was cooked in sewer water. Too little, it goes flat and you'd swear your 4 year old niece could do a better job blindfolded.

It may have been difficult Jelaine, but you have made it look so good. The rice is perfect.

Good work, Jelaine. The rice looks edible.
