Jelaine Faunce - "Saumons en Papier avec le Romarin" - 6"x 6" - oil on canvas

Pablo Villicana Lara - "Ghost Mail" - 6"x 6" - watercolor

Chris Beck - "Snail Mail" - 6"x 6" - watercolor
This month we decided to add a couple guest challengers, two artists with whom I am blessed to be acquainted- Pablo Villicana Lara and Chris Beck. They are outstanding watercolor realist painters and amazingly creative artists whose compositions never cease to inspire and amaze me. Also, after seeing our own monthly challenges, they started up one of their own and have produced some wonderful results (Yay!!!!!). I urge everyone to check out their blogs and get an eyeful of their handiwork. You won't be disappointed.

We thought we'd mix it up now and then, spring some guest artists on our readers, keep you all nimble. I chose this month's topic - an envelope. Of course, I revealed the subject to Pablo and Chris AFTER I'd already received their acceptance to participate. Their replies went something along the lines of, "If I'd wanted a headache, I'd go back to fighting with my kids about doing their homework!" and "Wouldn't it be easier if we all just wrangled a herd of flies???" Then I double-dog-dared them and they relented.

Good news! Otto's back from the dead!! (Yeti's said he tasted awful and spit him back up) Bad news! He's late with his entry for this month's challenge. So, check back here over the next days and weeks when we'll have the jpeg to add to our collection, making it an official 4 Artist Challenge for this month.

M was unable to join us for this month's challenge due to an overwhelming work load. No worries. But, if it happens again, well.......ask Otto.

Okay, so to explain my painting- I recently tried to cook a paper wrapped salmon recipe. It turned out okay, but if you're anything like me, you fear paper wrapped items in your oven. I have nightmares about folding the wrapping wrong and watching my kitchen go up in flames. That said, it's not all anxiety and nightmares. With the foolish idea to use a plain white envelope as our subject matter, I got it in mind to do a play on words on the recipe (paper wrapped salmon with rosemary). And that's how this crazy little painting came about. Ta da!!!

Marvelous, every one of them! The white envelope seems the perfect foil. Bravo!
How much fun this is. I look forward to this part of the month to see what your group is coming up with.
The envelope would create some interesting compositional challenges for sure.
Glad to hear Otto tastes so bad.
peace,
