Four Brown Eggs

6" x 6" - daily painting - oil on canvas
*
It's time for another break from large works and excessive detail. I've been obsessing over my latest "Color Therapy" pieces, and needed to slow down so as to avoid burnout. Whenever that time comes, I like to do small works such as the one above. Quiet works with just a few colors, a subdued background, clean highlights. They calm and focus my mind, bringing me back to center where I can contemplate the simple pleasures of life, the beauty in the everyday like what I see above, conveniently located in my refrigerator and kitchen cupboards. These refreshing paintings are what I call an artistic palette cleanser.

Jelaine, I love your comments about the more "serious" versus the "palette cleanser" paintings! This is truly beautiful with simple forms and muted palette punctuated by magnificent lighting! Love it! (I know after painting many large florals, I tend to paint fruit for the same reason--clears one's head.) Yours is always beautiful work!!! Jeanne

Jeanneillenye, thank you for taking time to share your thoughts with me. It's been a particularly bad morning, and the positive comments I've received today from both you and Delilah are comforting. It's also great to know of similar habits with other artists! I find that stopping art altogether in an attempt to get refreshed is not a good thing. I lose momentum. But, switching to something else is always helpful, just as you do, too. :o)

Jelaine, Beautiful work, the values really work well and the distortions and reflections from the glass are wonderful. I also agree that I can not stop painting, If I do not paint even for short periods of time, I am impossible
