6" x 6" - daily painting - oil on canvas
*
I had this nice little carton of a few dozen cherries that, over the course of just a few days, quickly became a nice little carton of just three cherries. I thought I'd commemorate the wonderful time I had eating them with this painting. I've painted cartons like this before, and always enjoy the challenge they provide. Having that rough, uneven surface, painting them requires me to get looser with my brush strokes, something I'm not always inclined to do. To accentuate that roughness, I placed the carton on a polished maple wood table, at an angle to a beam of sunlight that really brought out the contrasts of colors, shapes and surfaces on display in this piece. My favorite part ended up being the vivid reflection of the aqua blue carton and red cherries off the tabletop. Makes the whole composition feel so lush to me.
